Review from the lead developer of Shotcut

As the lead developer of Shotcut, I reviewed the entire course, and I think it is very good. James clearly and accurately explains many thing from basics to more advanced techniques such as picture-in-picture, chroma keying, and using custom HTML. The lessons are sequenced in a nice progressive manner, but you can also directly visit specific topics ~ Dan Dennedy

Reviews from students

Okay. I'm thrilled, so far. Your videos are bite-sized, allowing me to comfortably learn without overwhelming me. I am so happy I bought this course. Thank you for being thorough and taking the time and effort needed to make it comprehensible for me. I was completely overwhelmed and intimidated by the Shotcut interface until watching you first two video chapters of this course.

You explain and demonstrate it so clearly that, suddenly, it wasn't so scary. Then I watched video chapter number 3 on simple editing. That made sense. Finally. I'd watched all the tutorials on shotcut.org, but it never made much sense. You are absolutely awesome as a teacher. Thank you. ~ DL Keur

... the content of your videos is clear, well-planned, and concise, and the video quality itself is very good. I would certainly recommend the series to others interested in using Shotcut, ~ Chris Brandon

At this point is really awesome, it goes to the basic and explain very well and easy which is good to people like me that no have experience in editing. Wanna see more!! ~ Leonardo Rivera

Voiceover video needs updating

Robert Hayles , 4 months ago

DirectShow no longer available in latest Shotcut update, and none of the options in Edit>>Open Other include a way that I can find to use a headset mic. Until this video is updated we are reduced to recording on another device, like a Digital Voice Recorder, laying down another audio track, and matching the video to the audio. That is a pain in the butt.

Very good course, tutorial and help

I would definitely recommend this course for the beginner. You will not only learn from the basics to advanced on Shotcut but also will receive help from James. It was my pleasant surprise to receive reply of guidance from James via. email. I would give this course for 5 star.

I am disappointed in the course. Very short lessons and bad english

Pleasant and well paced - an excellent tutorial

Paul Wyatt , 7 months ago

I was not sure that I wanted to pay for a course on SHOTCUT. I had already used SHOTCUT to create a promotional video on my company's BI platform. I'd learnt how to transition with titles from a youtuber who has made a series of videos for SHOTCUT. As these were free, I thought I would jusst use them. However, I considered the price to be quite low and decided that I might learn a little more. The lecturer has an easy voice and the demonstrations are set at a very pleasant pace. At no point did I feel rushed or that the subject matter had been glossed over. Initially, I thought that some of the videos were too simple but soon came to appreciate them being there as things, such as settings and where to find them, would really serve as reminders after a long time of not using the software. Also, the complete process is covered from source files, management and editing; there is a great link to a marquee creation site for creating scrolling titles. Overall, I rate the course highly and consider it initially deceptively simple. I would recommend all beginners and intermediates to take this course. Surprisingly, there are offers after purchasing the course and one of those is for James Woo's course in OBS. As a result of seeing the preview, I downloaded this software, purchased the course and have now replaced my ,now, very poor CAMSTUDIO software with OBS screen capture. I can't believe how powerful this software is in comparison to my aged CAMSTUDIO. I was amazed first at the ease of configuration but then at how many sources I could record simultaneously - such a powerful piece of software.

Worth the investment!

Went from a total beginner on video editing, to adding my first edited video in 'YouTube' in less than four hours. I couldn't say this first video is prefect, but by following James' training tips, I should be refining my video editing skills in the days/ weeks to come. If you are an entrepreneur starting your own business and are considering taking advantage of video for publicity or visibility, this course is a must have. As I said, it was worth the investment!
